What better way to get inspired and plant new seeds in our mind than through the reading of ancient texts. Don Miguel’s “The Four Agreements” is a modern piece of writing which offers a powerful code of conduct based from ancient Toltec wisdom. Known as Men of Knowledge, the Toltec were scientists and artists whom flourished central Mexico between the 10th and mid-12th centuries CE. They explored and preserved sacred wisdom and traditions passing down to later civilizations such as the Aztec. Don Miguel explains four agreements that can transform our lives, the first is to be impeccable with your word.
I thought this is so relavant to our yoga practice. To be impeccable with your word means to speak with integrity, to say only what you mean. It means to use it in the direction of truth and love. But in order to send the speech of love to others, me must first learn to love ourselves. As you practice your yoga or going through daily tasks, dive into your mind and notice your mental fluctuations. Liberate yourself from self doubt, judgement and destructing thoughts. When you notice all this negativity, all this junk, replace them with self love. You are beautiful, you are doing your best, and you are exactly where you need to be.
If you understand the first agreement, be impeccable with you word, you begin to see all the changes that can happen in you life. Changes first in the way you deal with yourself, and later in the way you deal with other people, especially those you love the most… If we adopt the first agreement, and become impeccable with our word, any emotional poison will eventually be cleaned from our mind and from our communication in our personal relationships.
